COLOR + INK by Nicholas Pippins

I've been practicing with lettering and watercolors lately. I started as a way to learn and elevate the practice of lettering and painting in the Montessori classroom where I teach. It's really fun to work with and I'm finding it calming and therapeutic. But, also I get monomania about things and this is something that has grabbed my interest lately. Here are some of the things that have come out as actual little pieces. Many others are just study and practice. Hope you like them even a fraction as much as I enjoyed making them. Thanks for looking as always.

ELENA + SAM in Fischer, TX by Nicholas Pippins

I had the opportunity to shoot a wedding for my dear friends in the little hill country town of Fischer, Texas at the famous dance hall with hand hewn interior pieces from the German pioneers who settled the area. It was wonderful.

Elena and Sam's wedding was a reflection of themselves. An emphasis on family and friends. So many people camped out to hang the night before and after the wedding. Everybody helped pull off the wedding and a great party. The dancing stretched late into the night and it wasn't over, and when we were about to shut it down and someone decided to set off a whole mess of fireworks in the parking lot. I bet the party kept going long after I had to drive back to Austin to get home. (Although it was made abundantly clear I could stay.)

Elena and Sam had a wedding that honored their guests more than themselves. Brought family together from near and far, and I got to see a couple of guys I hadn't seen in years. It was truly a beautiful day and a gift to all the attended.

The following are not all the A cuts, but some As and some B-sides and ones that I just wanted to post. Thanks for looking at a few photos from a sap like me.

Digital India by Nicholas Pippins

This last summer I had the amazing opportunity to travel to India for a month. While the nature of this trip was not focused on photography I definitely knew I would have a camera with me at all times. Before my travels I decided to photograph mostly on film. I really wanted to pack light and couldn't imagine going to India without coming back with rolls of film to show for it. My mother went to India in her twenties and shot a bunch of slides that I grew up looking at. I think it's a big part of why I started taking photographs in the first place. So, if I got the chance to go I had to shoot on film. I ended up taking only a Contax G1 and the 28mm Biogon lens. I wanted something that would force me to get close to the subject. But at the last minute I decided to also take a Nikon point-and-shoot. The following photographs were taken with the digital point-and-shoot. I'm gonna continue to process the film and post here as I can.
